WWE Main Event from Los Angeles during the go-home week leading to WrestleMania featured a lot of hard sell hype for the show on Sunday. Likewise, the show featured two first-run matches from the tapings on Monday. Both of the matches were rather short and neither went through a commercial break. Rightfully, much of the show centered on hyping WrestleMania.
Fandango (with Rosa Mendes) beat Heath Slater
The commentators, Tom Phillips and JBL, noted both Slater and Fandango were entered in the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal. The trophy with the Andre statue sat stoically at ringside during this match. The crowd briefly chanted for Slater. They must have not known he was supposed to be the heel here. At one point, Slater taunted Fandango by striking a chord on air guitar. It was a good enough attempt at air guitar but far from Tanahashi level. Fandango was unimpressed and shoved Fandango down for his efforts.
When Slater bailed out of the ring after running into a dropkick, Fandango did a dive over the ropes to the outside. Slater soon cut off Fandango and hit him with a superkick for a nearfall. Slater got heat on him until Slater began to argue with Rosa. The distraction allowed Fandango to roll up Slater with a schoolboy for a nearfall. That led into Fandango firing up for a comeback that included a running powerslam. Fandango went to the top turnbuckle and Slater crotched him. As they slugged it out while perched on the ropes, Fandango leaped off and snapped Slater on the top rope. Fandango followed up with a legdrop off the top for the pinfall.
Naomi beat Alicia Fox
In a rematch from the previous episode of Main Event, these two has a quick match to close the show. Well technically an ad for WrestleMania closed the show but this was the closing match regardless. Alicia gained the early advantage but Naomi quickly cut her off. Naomi did a springboard off the top rope into a sunset flip. She followed that up with a hurricanrana and the booty shake headscissors. Alicia caught her with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.
Alicia proceeded to ground Naomi and get heat on her. Moments later, Naomi did a double springboard of sorts into a kick to start a comeback. Naomi gave Alicia a running bulldog into the turnbuckles. The director cut to the ringpost camera for that spot. The ringpost cameras are lame (but that’s just an opinion). With Naomi out on the apron, she jumped between the ropes and rolled up Alicia with a schoolgirl for the pin.
Elsewhere on the show were replays of angles from Raw including that show’s opening segment with Sting and Triple H. The closing segment with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesner having a tug of war with the title belt also aired. Plus, the angle with Rusev beating down John Cena was replayed. In addition, the go-home promo from Bray Wyatt on Raw and a video package hyping the women’s tag team match (Bellas vs. AJ & Paige) was shown as well.
