Landslides during floods and heavy rains often cause heavy damage to rail, road and communication network.
This year, in flood hit Nagaland state, many districts were left isolated due to the landslides. Now, the first community-based early warning system for landslides has been set up in Darjeeling, West Bengal, reported HT.
Director General, GSI, Dinesh Gupta told Hindustan Times, “On September 7, officials of Geological Survey of India held a mock drill and trained about 200 villagers from the three villages of Paglajhora, Giddapahar and 14 Mile to deploy the country’s first community-based early warning system for landslides.”
