The NXT brand is currently busy with a massive summer tour in the UK right now. In the past, NXT has had a number of shows at the Download Festival over in the United Kingdom. and they returned there recently. This time though, the NXT crew was joined by some of the members of the United Kingdom Championship Tournament that aired on the WWE Network earlier this year. If you didn’t know, the Download Festival is actually a major music festival that comes around every year. This helped lay the groundwork for a pretty clever little angle from WWE.
Mark Andrews is already one of the most popular members of the group of United Kingdom stars that WWE has signed. What you may not know though, is that Andrews is also the bassist and a vocalist for a pop-punk band called Junior. His band had a set at the music festival that seemed to be going well, that is until “The Bruiserweight” Pete Dunne suddenly attacked Andrews just as he was exiting the stage. The UK Champion blindsided Andrews and left him laying on the stage. The angle was done to set the stage for a match between the two wrestlers later on at the festival.
Before Dunne left the area, Andrews regained his strength and dove onto the UK Champion from the stage. Andrews also took the mic and cut a quick promo hyping up the match that they were going to have a little bit later on in the day. It appears that Mark Andrews could very well be the next contender for Dunne’s championship title once they get back on television. This could have been just a way to help set it up, it will be interesting to see if WWE will acknowledge Dunne’s actions on television, and if they’ll use that going forward. Pete Dunne defeated Mark Andrews later on today at the Download Festival for NXT, and he retained his UK Championship in the process.
