Many in the WWE Universe are already upset or at least a little uneasy that the WWE still plans to go ahead with its showcase pay-per-view, Crown Jewel, in Saudi Arabia considering it is likely that country’s totalitarian government just executed a journalist.
In light of that, the WWE has taken caution with promoting the event and has often times taken extra caution to remove references involving Saudi Arabia. However, one of its latest Instagram posts promoting the event shows a picture of The Undertaker’s urn with the DX logo spray painted on it. The photo includes the caption that reads, “Respect is out the window at #WWECrownJewel.”
As you can imagine, several fans have seen this is a tone-deaf message in light of the circumstances surrounding the event. Here is some of the feedback it is receiving:
“Absolutely tone deaf caption. Social media bod, have words with yourself,” one fan said in the comments section of the post. Another person wrote, “Cancel the network if wwe does not cancel crown jewel.”
Another fan wrote, “Saudi Arabia was responsible for 9-11, WWE took a stand then, that Smackdown after 9-11 was amazing, I’m from NY, WWE is pretty American and it’s very upsetting they are still planning on going to Saudi Arabia after this #cancelcrownjewel”
Here’s a look at the post with thanks on transcription to WrestlingNews:
