CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Augustana Senior Aero Amo went 2-1 on day one of the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships and will garner All-American honors after once the tournament is complete. Amo becomes the 19th two-time All-American in school history.
Wrestling will wrap up tomorrow, March 10 with Sessions III and IV. Session III will take place at 10 a.m. and will feature the semifinals, third round consolations, the consolation semis, and the third, fifth and seventh place matches. Session IV will begin at 6 p.m. and include the finals of the weight classes.
Session II
Aero Amo secured an All-American spot at 184 pounds by winning his second round consolation match and advancing to tomorrow. Amo defeated Minnesota State’s Corey Abernathy, a returning All-American, by a 5-2 decision. Amo earns All-American honors for the second straight season after taking fifth at 184 pounds last season.
Amo fell in the 184-pound quarterfinals to Jeff Reimel of Kutztown by a 14-4 major decision before defeating Abernathy.
Lukas Poloncic’s season came to an end Friday night after falling in the consolation first round to Steven Edwards of Pitt-Johnstown 15-13 in sudden victory. Poloncic finished his sophomore season with a record of 19-17 and his first trip to the national tournament.

Session I
Lukas Poloncic and Aero Amo each opened their NCAA tournaments with one match in Session I. In his first nationals match of his career, Poloncic fell to Nick Becker of Wisconsin-Parkside at 174 pounds by a first period pin. Amo, making his third straight trip to nationals, defeated Richard Bancomo of Adams State by a 7-0 decision at 184 pounds.
