England vs Iceland Betting Tips: Grealish to provide inspiration for the Three Lions

Posted on February 11, 2022

class=”article_teaser__2t5do”>The Aston Villa man has been in confident form this season and Al Hain-Cole is backing him to grab his first international goal against Hamren's men

After a frustrating few matches, England will be determined to end their poor Nations League campaign in free-scoring form when Iceland visit Wembley on Wednesday.

The Three Lions have seen their chances of progression disappear after two successive group stage defeats and three matches in four without a goal.

Without a strike for his country in over a year, Harry Kane is priced at 9/4 (3.25) to bring his five-match barren run to an end with the opener in the capital.

The star striker has netted 13 times in just 11 starts for Tottenham so far this campaign so remains a narrow 4/7 (1.57) shot to strike anytime despite his uncharacteristic lean spell at this level.

However, there could be better value in backing Jack Grealish to get on target at 7/4 (2.75) anytime, having proved a rare bright spark for Gareth Southgate’s team in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat in Belgium.

In confident spirits after hitting the net five times in eight league games this season, the Aston Villa playmaker could be just the man to provide some much-needed inspiration in the absence of Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling.

Grealish was selected ahead of Jadon Sancho, who is England’s 6/4 (2.50) second-favourite to score despite falling down the pecking order in recent fixtures.

In the visiting dugout, Erik Hamren will also be hoping his side can finish on a high after announcing that this will be his final match in charge following the Euro 2020 play-off defeat to Hungary.

This task is all the more difficult without experienced players including Gylfi Sigurdsson, Joey Berg Gudmundsson and Alfred Finnbogason, who all returned to their clubs following Sunday’s defeat in Denmark.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson’s 26 international goals make him by far the most likely opening goalscorer for Iceland at a massive 18/1 (19.00), or 11/2 (6.50) anytime.

Millwall’s Jon Dadi Bodvarsson doesn’t inspire too much confidence at 13/2 (7.50) after scoring just three times in 54 internationals, with Birkir Bjarnason’s 13 international goals making him a slightly more appealing 17/2 (9.50) long shot.
