Last Monday, John Cena and Roman Reigns made their match official for No Mercy on September 24 in Los Angeles. So essentially, WWE is giving away a WrestleMania-caliber match on a random, September PPV.
The fact that WWE is doing Reigns vs. Cena at No Mercy instead of at WrestleMania is baffling to most, including former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Edge, who said the following on his podcast with his ex-tag team partner Christian:
“Here’s where I gotta start,” Edge said. “Why No Mercy? There’s gotta be something going on there because you don’t do this — that’s a WrestleMania match. It goes back to my Brock Lesnar [vs]Samoa Joe: imagine if you put Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe, and Roman Reigns vs. John Cena on WrestleMania. Sold! But you put [Joe vs. Lesnar] on Great Balls of Fire, and you put [Reigns vs. Cena] on No Mercy… Like, what?”
