SCSU Wrestling Names 2012-13 Team Captains

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University wrestling head coach Steve Costanzo and staff have announced their team captains for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.

Seven individuals have been named team captains for the 2012-2013 wrestling campaign. Seniors Eric Ellington, Jacob D. Horn, Jacob R. Horn, Jacob Kahnke, Shamus O’Grady, Andy Pokorny and Kurt Salmen will be leading the way for the Huskies. The husky leaders look to improve on a second consecutive NCAA DII Runner-Up campaign.

Ellington of Fairview Heights, IL is a returning 2011 NCAA DII National Qualifier for the Huskies at 133 – pounds. He redshirted during the 2011-2012 season.

Jacob D. Horn of Ephrata, WA is a two-time NCAA DII National Qualifier and a 2011 NCAA DII All-American for the Huskies. He was 18-9 during the 2011-2012 season.

Jacob R. Horn of St. Michael, MN is a graduate of St. Michael-Albertville. He has been in and out of the varsity line-up the last three years for the Huskies. He went 15-14 during the 2011-2012 campaign.

Kahnke of Shakopee, MN is a three-time NCAA DII All-American for the Huskies. In the last two seasons, he finished as the runner-up in his respective weight class. He went 36-3 last season.

O’Grady of Coon Rapids, MN is a three-time NCAA DII All-American for the Huskies. He has finished in the top six in the nation over the last three years. He was 17-3 last season.

Pokorny of Bennington, NE is the retuning NCAA DII National Runner-Up in his respective weight class. He will be looking for his first national title in 2012-2013. Pokorny went 22-7 last season for the Huskies.

Salmen of Dassel, MN has been in and out of the varsity line-up the last two seasons for the Huskies. He went 16-10 last season filling in for the injured O’Grady and Derek Skala.

“This group of captains has been around Husky wrestling for a long time now,” said Coach Steve Costanzo. “I expect excellent leadership qualities out of them and am excited for them to fill this role. Their leadership skills will be one of the key elements to our season.”

The St. Cloud State Wrestling team returns four NCAA All-Americans and five NCAA National Qualifiers from last year’s Runner-Up team. The Huskies will open up their season on Friday, November 2nd as they host their Annual Black/Red Classic at 7 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
