The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is launching a fundraising drive for Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff just days before his special election in a race the party hopes will be a referendum rebuffing President Trump.

ADVERTISEMENT”A Republican loss here would send a bitter rebuke to Trump that shows Republicans across the country that Americans do not support Trump’s agenda,” the email to PCCC’s membership reads. PCCC press secretary Kait Sweeney told The Hill that the email, sent just before midnight on Tuesday, has raised more than $34,000 for Ossoff’s campaign from 1,700 grassroots donations in less than one day. The PCCC, like other groups, helps to bundle members’ contributions to candidates it has endorsed. “By siding with big corporations over working families and betraying his own voters, Trump is creating an environment where even deep red districts … are extremely competitive,” she said in a statement. “A Republican loss here would send a bitter rebuke to the entire Republican Party that Americans across the country do not support their radical, anti-worker agenda — and that’s why thousands of PCCC members are donating or volunteering for Ossoff’s campaign.” Ossoff’s race is the next major target for Democrats looking to push the idea that Trump is a risk to Republicans coming up for reelection. The goal for Democrats is an outright victory next Tuesday. Voters will choose from a slate of more than a dozen candidates from all parties, and if Ossoff fails to reach 50 percent, he’ll be forced into a runoff with a Republican, complicating things for Democrats. The PCCC, as well as virtually every major political group on both sides of the aisle, is pouring money into Georgia. But that’s drawn criticism from Republicans who chide Ossoff for raising more from outside of Georgia. While the PCCC didn’t make a push in Tuesday’s Kansas special election, liberal groups helped to significantly boost the Democrat’s fundraising totals there. The liberal blog Daily Kos raised more than $160,000 for James Thompson over the last few days.
