WWE Reportedly Considers Cancelling UK Show, or Replacing Another

After the UK Championship Tournament ended earlier this year, the talent involved regularly appeared on NXT to showcase their skills to that audience. During the matches involving the United Kingdom wrestlers, you may have overheard the announcers mentioning that an exclusive new wrestling show from the United Kingdom would be coming soon to the WWE Network. Apparently, plans have changed at the moment, hence why neither Nigel McGuinness or Jim Ross made reference to the upcoming show during the Tyler Bate/Pete Dunne match at Takeover last weekend. It appears that the future of the series may be completely in doubt.
Cageside Seats has reported that the United Kingdom series is stuck in limbo at the moment. Dave Meltzer has noted on Wrestling Observer Radio before that the cruiserweight-exclusive 205 Live show is one of the lowest rated shows on the entire WWE Network. It always gets lower ratings than taped NXT episodes, and now is watched by less subscribers than Ride Along to put things in perspective. The belief is that the UK show has been halted at the moment due to the poor reception to 205 Live, and the show will either continue as planned eventually, or it could replace a current program on the WWE Network. What that program would be has not been suggested as of yet.
Given how disappointed WWE has been with the performance of the cruiserweight show, it would make sense for them to replace 205 Live with the new UK series. Cruiserweight talent even wrestled at the recent United Kingdom Special that aired on the WWE Network recently, so it is possible to have them integrated into the show if it comes down to it. It’s all a moot point anyway though if WWE decides to not go through with the United Kingdom series after all. Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate had what some called “the match of the night” at Takeover last weekend, and cancelling the new series would be devastating to the talent involved. Let’s hope to hear something regarding a decision sometime shortly.
