St. Cloud State University junior Austin Goergen (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia Area H.S.) has been selected as the D2wrestle.com Division II Super Region Three Wrestler of the Week for the week of Dec. 7-13, 2015. This marks the second time this season that the number one ranked Goergen has earned NSIC and Super Region III Wrestler of the Week honors.
Goergen gained the honor with a first place finish in the 285-pound division at the 2015 Holiday Inn/Husky Open on Dec. 12 in St. Cloud, Minn. The nation’s number one ranked NCAA DII wrestler at 285-pounds, Goergen posted a 3-0 record in tournament action. He won the tournament title with a 4:20 fall against #1 ranked Donald Longendyke of Augsburg, which was the first time that Longendyke has been pinned as a college wrestler.
Goergen gained his spot in the finals with a 6:34 pin against Vincent Feola of North Dakota State and a 14-3 major decision against Nathan Rose of Minnesota in the semifinals.
He now owns a perfect 9-0 record this season, which includes eight wins by falls in 2015-16.
The #2 Huskies currently own a 2-0 record this season in dual meet action under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo. SCSU won the NCAA Division II national title in 2015 and the Huskies have won four consecutive NSIC titles.
SCSU will continue its season on Jan. 2 with a trip to the Viking-Warrior Open in Fremont, Neb.
