The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team will open up the eight-bout Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule this Saturday, Jan. 11, when the Mustangs welcome Minot State to the PE Gym. The Mustangs are 3-2 in duals this season and dropped their lone home dual of the season to Concordia College on Nov. 13. SMSU defeated Minot State 44-3 in Minot, N.D. last season.

The Beavers are 0-4 in duals to start the 2013-14 season — falling to No. 18 Minnesota State (31-9), Central Missouri (27-12), Nebraska-Kearney (31-13) and No. 12 Ouachita Baptist (38-15). The Beavers are coming off a 0-3 dual record at the University Central Missouri held in Warrensburg, Mo., on Jan. 5. The Beavers opened up their eight-bout Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule on Dec. 20, versus Minnesota State. SMSU took a 2-1 advantage in the three-dual match series history with its 44-3 road victory last season. SMSU took the inaugural meeting 37-2 in 1970-71, but fell 24-12 during the 1972-73 season. The Beavers are led by 165-pounder Marcus Polak who is 15-8 on the season with 31 takedowns and two pins. Tiger Paasch (174) owns a 10-9 record and leads the team with five pins.
