Though reaction from the WWE Universe about this week’s episode from RAW has at best been mixed and at worst still fairly negative, one thing almost universally agreed upon on social media is that Sasha Banks owned the spotlight with her promo and victory over Nia Jax in the RAW Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender match.
To celebrate The Boss’ big victory and get ready for her shot at the championship against “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey on January 27th at the Royal Rumble in Phoenix, I’ve compiled a list of some Banks’ biggest matches of her career with some videos to help you relive or catch for the first time some of the in-ring magic turned in by The Boss. In no particular ranked order, here’s 10 must-watch Sasha Banks matches with brief match breakdowns:
1. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, NXT Women’s Championship Match, NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn
(August 2015)
In a match that earned 4.5 stars from Dave Meltzer, Bayley eventually knocked off The Boss in just under 20 minutes to claim the NXT Women’s Championship. After the match, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch came to the ring to celebrate with the new champ, and eventually Banks as well. Given that Banks, Flair and Lynch were introduced to the main roster the month previously in July of 2015, it was a fitting curtain call for the group known as The Four Horsewomen who have helped advance the women’s revolution to what it has become today.
2. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, NXT Women’s Championship Iron Man Match, NXT TakeOver: Respect (Oct. 2015)
In the main event, NXT Women’s Champion Bayley defended her title against Sasha Banks in a 30–minute Iron Man match, in what was the first women’s match to headline a major WWE event, the first time in WWE history that a women’s match had this stipulation, and the longest women’s match in WWE history at the time until the 2018 Women’s Royal Rumble match. This was Pro Wrestling Illustrated‘s Match of the Year.
3. Sasha Banks vs. Natalya vs. Lana vs. Naomi vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Ember Moon vs. Becky Lynch, Women’s Money in the Bank Match (June 2018)
Ember Moon, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Naomi, Lana, and Sasha Banks competed in the Women’s Money in the Bank match. In the end, Lynch attempted to retrieve the briefcase only for Bliss to push the ladder causing Lynch to fall. Bliss ascended the ladder to retrieve the briefcase to win the match. Bliss cashed in her contract later on in the evening to win the RAW Women’s Championship against Nia Jax after causing a disqualification in a previous Jax-Ronda Rousey match.
4. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair, RAW Women’s Championship, RAW (Nov. 28, 2016)
This was a Falls Count Anywhere match for the Raw Women’s Championship and took place in the main event. Sasha won the title from Charlotte in what was an epic featuring two of the most talented women’s Superstars in all of the WWE. Banks and Charlotte made a lot of history that year, becoming the first women to ever main event RAW since 2004 and winning Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Feud of the Year.
5. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair, RAW Women’s Championship, RAW (Oct. 3, 2016)
Banks scored her second reign as RAW Women’s Champion in the main event of this RAW episode, just ahead of their historic match in the first ever Women’s Hell in a Cell match on October 30. The Boss also got an assist from Bayley earlier in this show after The Hugger took out Flair’s protege, Dana Brooke, to ensure Banks would not have to deal with any outside interference. Sasha transitioned a Hurricanrana into the Bank Statement to get Flair to submit.
6. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair, RAW Women’s Championship, Hell in a Cell (Oct. 30, 2016)
For the first-time ever for a WWE pay-per-view, a women’s match was the main event, which was also the first-ever women’s Hell in a Cell match that saw Charlotte defeat Sasha Banks to capture her third Raw Women’s Championship. In the end, Banks attempted a Powerbomb on Charlotte through a table, but failed. Charlotte took advantage by throwing Banks onto the table, which was positioned in the corner, and then executed Natural Selection to win the title.
7. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch, Women’s Championship, WrestleMania 32 (April 3, 2016)
The Boss added some swag to the start of the match by having her cousin, Snoop Dogg, rap as part of her entrance music to the ring. Originally promoted as being for Charlotte’s WWE Divas Championship, the match would instead determine the new WWE Women’s Champion as the Divas title would be retired. The ending saw Lynch execute a fisherman suplex from the top rope on Charlotte, who rolled to the floor. Banks then applied the Bank Statement on Lynch but Charlotte threw Banks out of the ring. Charlotte applied the Figure-Eight Leglock on Lynch while Ric Flair (Charlotte’s father and manager) prevented Banks from intervening. Lynch submitted, giving the win and the WWE Women’s title to Charlotte. As a side note, this WrestleMania set multiple records for the WWE in attendance (claimed by Meltzer as 93,730) and grossing $17.3 million.

8. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch, NXT Women’s Championship, NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable (May 20, 2015)
Team Bae turned on each other in a fight for the NXT Women’s Championship. This was the debut of Lynch’s Straight Fire hair look as well. Banks took control by working the arm then leveling the challenger with the double stomp. Lynch mounted a comeback, but being one-armed did her no favors as Banks was able to cut her off at almost every stop. Late in the contest, Banks delivered the Banks Statement, trapped the injured arm of Lynch and scored the submission victory.
9. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair, NXT Women’s Championship, NXT TakeOver: Rival (Feb. 11, 2015)
This underrated Fatal 4-way served as the appetizer to the main event of friends Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn destroying each other for the NXT Championship, but stole the show in just over 12 minutes. This is really the time when the perception of the wrestling went from divas to women’s wrestling. Rather than being eye candy, all four women in the match began developing fully formed characters, and not just petty feuds over looks or boyfriends. Bayley performed a Bayley-to-Belly Suplex off the top rope on Charlotte, but Banks broke up the pinfall attempt. Banks then pinned Charlotte with a crucifix to win the title.
10. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair, RAW Women’s Championship, RAW (July 25, 2016)
This was Banks’ first appearance on RAW after being drafted to the show on July 19. It was a coming of age story for The Boss.
Banks grew up watching professional wrestling and was a huge fan of Eddie Guerrero. She had also watched the top prize in women’s wrestling slip through her fingers courtesy of outside interference or other shenanigans. She brought those two things together to execute a great victory for the RAW Women’s Championship. This kicked off a back-and-forth rivalry between the two the rest of the year that won PWI’s Feud of the Year award.
