Thursday News Update
It was announced on Raw last night that TJ Perkins would officially defend his WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Brian Kendrick at Hell in a Cell later this month.
There will be three Hell in a Cell matches at the PPV, with Kevin Owens defending the Universal title against Seth Rollins and Sasha Banks defending the Raw Women’s title against Charlotte inside of the structure. The two matches join the already announced US title Hell in a Cell match between Roman Reigns and Rusev.
WWE
After returning to WWE TV on last Sunday’s No Mercy PPV, Luke Harper will team with Bray Wyatt against Randy Orton and Kane on SmackDown tonight. Dolph Ziggler also teased a match with the Spirit Squad on the show, and it was later confirmed by Daniel Bryan.
Sin Cara joined the cruiserweight division on last night’s Raw.
WWE 2K17 was released across various gaming platforms today.
Rusev and Lana take a look at WWE 2K17, and Rusev gets offended at wrestlers with a higher rating than him.
Today would have been Dusty Rhodes’ 71st birthday.
Trish Stratus announced that she’s pregnant with her second child.
WWE uploaded a clip from the Samoa Joe vs. William Regal match that took place 16 years ago today. The full match is available on the WWE Network as part of the Hidden Gems collection.
Paige’s brothers commented on her suspension from WWE, claiming that the suspension was because of a prescription she had for painkillers to treat her neck injury.
Bayley was interviewed by Sporting News about WWE 2K17 and women’s wrestling in WWE.
Professional Wrestling
Dave Meltzer confirmed on Monday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that it was indeed Kota Ibushi wrestling as Tiger Mask W at NJPW’s King of Pro Wrestling PPV. The Tiger Mask W character will also be a part of next year’s Wrestle Kingdom 11 show.
Ricochet won’t make his previously scheduled dates for EVOLVE in November. William Regal will now appear at the November 13th show in Joppa, MD, for a meet and greet.
EVOLVE’s latest mini-documentary focuses on EVOLVE Champion Timothy Thatcher and his ongoing problems with Drew Gulak.
Broken Matt Hardy claimed that he wants to buy TNA and would change the name of the promotion.
Josh Alexander tweeted that he won’t be allowed to work in the United States again until a promotion sponsors him for a work visa. The issues caused him to miss his scheduled appearances for AAW last weekend.
Alberto Del Rio was interviewed on The Taz Show today.
MMA
Embattled former NFL defensive lineman Greg Hardy announced that he is making the transition to MMA. Hardy last played for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 season but wasn’t signed by a team after becoming a free agent. Hardy was arrested for domestic violence in December 2014 and has been criticized for his lack of contrition about the incident. He was also arrested last month for cocaine possession. Hardy has been training for several months, and several MMA promotions have expressed interest according to his team.
Combate Americas will make an announcement tonight regarding Alberto Del Rio. It’s expected to be that he’ll be the public face of the company. Del Rio has been billed as “Alberto El Presidente” in interviews with ESPN yesterday and on The Taz Show today.
Michael Bisping responded to Chris Weidman saying that he was embarrassed for Bisping after UFC 204.
Adam Piccolotti vs. Brandon Girtz and Linton Vassell vs. Francis Carmont have been added to the Bellator 165 card. The show is scheduled for November 19th and will be headlined by Benson Henderson vs. Michael Chandler.
