Hey, a beautiful day in the neighborhood for Pub stop No. 2
and, coincidentally, the USATF National Masters 10K Championships. It was an exciting
format having some of the best age-groupers in the country head out 3-minutes
ahead of the rest of the pack.
Two former Pub Series queens ÛÓ Kara Haas and Mimi Fallon
ÛÓ duked it out for national supremacy while Lager Lord Greg Picklesimer placed 4th overall among the 40+ set (2nd 45-49)
to set up a tie with Whirlaways Joe
Navas (6th Master) for the top 40+ spot on the Series.
Pickle’s Somerville RR teammate and Doyle’s champion, young Jacob Barnett, ran 32:23 to post up 4th
overall at the Ramble and retain his perch atop the keg. The race was won by
former NCAA D2 10,000m champion Amos Sang in 29:25.
Defending Pub Queen Lindsay
Willard has gone under the knife and we wish her the best, leaving Sara Donahue at the top of the
leaderboard but a question mark for the Series. No doubt about the hops and
malt pedigree of places 2-7: RI’s Jackie
Jackman, Sarah Phillips, Ginger Reiner, Amanda Waters and Jennifer Flynn.
It was tough to score against the uber fleet of feet at the
Ramble like ME’s Phil Pierce, 71,
running 9-flat pace and coming in 11th 70+), but those with an appetite for Pub
Points should be able to gobble a barrel load at the Evans Run 5K in Norwell on
May 19, followed by repast at McGreel’s Tavern 1.25-miles down the road.
Speaking of difficulty and the glamour of the publishing
biz, this not-so-great quality photo nonetheless shows our office wall
festooned with the overall Open, Overall USATF, Open age-groups and 5-year
USATF age groups as I manually did what the timing service could not do
electronically on a trying dayÛÓmerge everything so that the Pub Series could be
scored.
Hence, I didn’t trifle with filling in folks from NY, etc.
into the Series standings. If anyone who didn’t do Doyle’s but is now on a
5-race Pub Series streak (and thinks they scored) do send an email.
Otherwise, see you in rural suburbia on the 5-19. Yah! Men’s Standings Women’s Standings Manifesto & Schedule
