A New York man is accused of threatening to kill Ilhan Omar, a freshman Democratic Congresswoman from Minnesota who is one of the first Muslim women to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, federal officials said.
The U.S. Attorney’s office in the Western District of New York announced on Friday that Patrick W. Carlineo Jr., 55, of Addison, New York was arrested and charged with threatening to assault and murder a United States officials.
Officials said that on March 21 at around 12:20 p.m., a staff member at Omar’s office received a phone call.
“Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood?” the person on the phone said, accordng to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “Why are you working for her, she’s a (expletive) terrorist. I’ll put a bullet in her (expletive) skull.”
The threat was referred to the United States Capitol Police who began an investigation with the FBI.
Carlineo is being held pending a detention hearing on April 10. The maximum penalty for the charge he is facing is 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
