While India is cheering on the landmark verdict delivered by the Supreme Court that decriminalized Section 377 today, people are celebrating the occasion with great zeal and enthusiasm. While some are heading to Kitty Su bar to enjoy free complimentary drinks, others are dancing to the tunes of drums in Mumbai and in other metropolitan cities.
However, in this celebration people have forgotten luminaries who worked day and night in turning this dream into a reality. Menaka Guruswamy is one such lawyerand petitioner, who marched to the Supreme Court in July 2018 challenging the apex court’s 2013 order.
On July 08, Guruswamy tweeted, “With the Constitution in our hearts, we go to our Court, to seek to remove a colonial stain on our collective national conscience. Section 377 your time has come. See you in Court on Tuesday.”
