In its third year, Bobby Martinez won the first stop of Nixon’s ‘Winner-Takes-All’ at the Billabong Pro in Teahupoo, Tahiti. The winner who conquers the challenges of WTA is awarded with a limited edition Nixon timepiece. The WTA tests are at four stops along the ASP World Tour and include: heaviest wave in Teahupoo, Tahiti (May); highest heat score at Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa (July); the longest tube in Mundaka, Euskadi (October); and the overall Triple Crown winner on the North Shore of Oahu in December.
Martinez snagged the heaviest wave of the event solidifying both his overall win at the Billabong Pro as well as the award for Nixon’s WTA ‘Heaviest Wave’ title and a custom watch valued at over $10,000 USD. Each WTA watch will feature a Swiss Made chronograph with day and custom colour date, a titanium carbide coated case and band with rotating bezel and countdown timer, sapphire crystal, a custom-engraved case back and custom set diamonds and rubies.
“The WTA is a great way to recognize achievements during specific WCT events that might have otherwise gone unrecognized or not awarded”, stated Nixon’s Marketing Manager, Mike Murciano. “It’s even better when the winner of the overall event is also the winner of the WTA! I was stoked to see Bobby win both. Despite the mediocre Teahupoo conditions, it was a solid wave.”
Nixon was founded in 1997 in Encinitas; the company profiles itself as the premium watch and accessories brand for the youth lifestyle market. Currently distributed in over 40 countries, Nixon’s product range includes select men’s and women’s soft goods, leather goods and custom headphones.
