The Brazilian defender endured a testing 2017-18 campaign at Chelsea, but he is excited by a new era and setting his sights on more major silverware
David Luiz is embracing the “great style” of Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea after enduring a testing time towards the end of Antonio Conte’s reign.
Injury issues prevented the Brazilian from making the desired impact in 2017-18, but he was also reported to have endured a strained relationship with the man in charge at Stamford Bridge.
A change in the dugout this summer has offered a clean slate to all concerned, with Luiz back in favour and determined to prove his worth.
He believes exciting times lie ahead under Sarri, with the Italian favouring a more adventurous approach to his predecessor and fellow countryman.
Luiz told Chelsea’s official website: “It’s always great to start a new season.
“We have a new philosophy which we are trying hard to learn every day as quickly as possible, in order to play well and fight for the title.
“He’s a great coach with a great philosophy. He’s passionate and we work every day on the details so I think he’s going to bring a lot of good things to Chelsea and the Premier League.
“It’s an offensive style of football, playing high with pressure and a lot of possession, it’s a great style.”
Chelsea bid farewell to Conte after slipping out of the Premier League’s top four a year on from being crowned as champions.
They were, however, able to secure more silverware in the form of FA Cup success and Luiz expects the Blues to be in contention of more trophy triumphs under a new regime.
He added: “Of course, we will work for that.
“That’s why we play for a big club. Big clubs always need to have ambition and to think in that way. You can’t start a season thinking you can’t do it.
“It doesn’t matter the name of the competition, we will fight to the end for the Premier League and the other trophies.”
