AMES, Iowa — Beto O’Rourke declined on Tuesday to say how much he raised in the second quarter of the year, saying he did not yet know his fundraising numbers.
“I haven’t seen them yet,” the Texas Democrat said.
The fundraising figure is a measure of viability watched closely by presidential campaigns — including O’Rourke’s. Hours after the close of the fundraising period, the candidate had signed an email to supporters Monday thanking them for contributing.
“I want to thank all of you who made a contribution or volunteered at the close of such an important quarter,” he wrote. “Because of you, we’ve overcome each obstacle — including the critical fundraising goal we set.”

O’Rourke, speaking with reporters after an event in Ames, said he would disclose his fundraising figures by the July 15 deadline.
His demurral was reminiscent of his reluctance in March to immediately disclose his fundraising figures from the first 24 hours of his campaign, only to later report a staggering sum of $6.1 million.
But O’Rourke’s campaign has fallen significantly in public opinion polls in the months since.
Asked whether he was happy with the second-quarter numbers, the former congressman said, “I actually, I don’t know the numbers. I haven’t seen them yet.”
He added, “I’m going to find them soon.”
O’Rourke was touching off his sixth trip to Iowa since announcing his campaign — accompanied this time by his wife, Amy, and three children. His event here drew about 160 supporters on a rainy night.
