2 dead after explosion during ‘liquid-fueled engine’ test at military site in Russia – MoD
An explosion has rocked a Russian Navy firing range during trials there, the Ministry of Defense has said. At least two service members were killed in the blast.
A “liquid-fueled jet engine” exploded at the test site in Russia’s Arkhangelsk Region, close to the city of Severodvinsk, home to a major base of the Navy’s Northern Fleet. As well as the two “specialists” who succumbed to their injuries, six more people were injured and were being treated in hospital.
There was no release of radioactive substances into the air, the military confirmed. Rescue services were, nonetheless, put on high alert.
The type of device in question has not been disclosed, nor has a possible reason for the tragedy been suggested.

Back in 2015, the region witnessed another incident involving a cruise missile. It was also being put on trial but veered off course and hit the ground near an adjacent settlement. The ill-fated weapon’s failure did not inflict any casualties or damage.
